BC Talent Team Coach and new woman’s and children’s clothing range

It is the weekend and no sign of sleet, frost or snow – yet! You can tell we have NO coaching or racing this weekend.
rob sharman workshop
Thursday night at 6.30 sharp we have part 2 of British Cycling’s Talent Team Coach and ex-top Pro Rob Sharman’s talks at Eaton Primary starting at 6.30. This time, Rob will give us an insight into training volumes and intensities and although he focusses on young riders he assures me there is something for everyone in this part of the workshop. Rob’s services are only available to BC Go-Ride status clubs who invest in rider development – like us – so do not miss this opportunity. Its FREE to NCA members, you would be mad to miss 2 hours with Rob…

Whether you are looking for some comfy shorts, 3/4s, undershorts or new shoes they have a wider range of woman specific clothing waiting for you to come and try and size up. Bring the family as a brand new range of children’s jerseys, shorts and jackets has just arrived in more colours than you can shake a stick at!!
Well done to all out riders last week at our inaugural race meeting. A wide range of pics can be found here: www.flickr.com/photos/85603206@N02/sets/72157631416631434/show/
The league table for each championship can be downloaded on our homepage.
Good luck to Matt Smith who will be the first ever NCA member to ride an open Time Trial for the club on Sunday in the GYCC. Lets keep our fingers crossed on the weather for Matt and all you other NCAers who are on the start list.
Lastly, look who came to ride on the NCA bikes Friday – our local MP Chloe Smith. Hopefully we can persuade her to come and join us for a Sufferfest some time soon…

New Faces, Sunday Dates and a Cervelo Corker!

This week we thought the Sufferfest would be a little quiet as it is the AGM and Awards ceremony for the Tri-Anglia Club. But no, we have been amazed at how many new faces have booked into this week’s sufferfest and snapped up all the turbo’s and bikes! Kev and I can not wait to meet you and we know you will love this weeks challenging (and sooooo rewarding) session.

You can check the bookings for Friday here: http://blog.pedalrevolution.co.uk/events/the-sufferfest-training-night-2013-01-11 Please remember to bring a towel to protect the floor beneath you.

The Norfolk Cycle Show at the Forum on 3rd February is already to roll and the NCA will be present with ActivatingCIC’s new portable pump and mountain bike track, the smoothie bike and the Rollerdrome! What more do you need for a great family day out, let alone the trade stands and the chance to meet some cycling celebs? http://www.thenorfolkcycleshow.co.uk/

We are very close to being able to announce our racing calendar and the dates for family coaching, female riding and race coaching on Sundays at the airport. Get your diaries ready next week. We hope to start Sunday coaching for the season on February 10th or 17th – and the first of our new exciting season long racing league will kick off on the 3rd March (to be confirmed next week). We are raring to go and just ironing out the final details.

Pedal Revolution have been busy helping many of you with bike fits and turbo’s thanks to their NCA members deals and this week have added an amazing offer for those serious about their sport – the amazing aero all-carbon Cervelo S2 frame in all sizes (from 48cm for ladies and youths to 60 for the big boys) for £999.99 – just ring or pop in and ask Gareth for details. This Sunday the NCA has been invited into the Norwich Sportspark for their open day from 10am-3pm. There are lots of sports and exhibits for all the family so get along and try something different.

Come and have a go on our amazing Rollerdrome. It is the closest thing to sprinting on the Olympic velodrome. Four riders head-2-head battle it out over 500m. We have prizes for the fastest riders and a special gift for the rider we think put the most effort in! Our velodrome bikes are suitable from about 9-10 year-olds and everyone is welcome – its completely free!

Big weekend at the NCA!

Sufferfest Indoor Training: http://blog.pedalrevolution.co.uk/events/the-sufferfest-training-night-2012-11-02

Friday night is bike night at the NCA and the weekly Sufferfest is about to get bigger and better. Having outgrown the dance studio on only week 3, we have been invited into the coveted Atrium at the City Academy complete with it’s huge screen, mega sound system and fabulous changing facilities. Kev is also excited by the all-new 2012 Tour de France based Sufferfest that he has honed in in own amazing style just for your suffering pleasure.

Big Screen, Big Sound, Big Session. Kev’s a happy man!

We reckon you have helped us make the NCA Sufferfest is the biggest and best in the region and in the Atrium we have the opportunity to create the UK’s biggest and best indoor training session together. Come and give it a try and see what all the fuss is about. We have lots of turbo’s and bikes available to book (email info@activatingCIC.co.uk) or take up Pedal Revolution’s generous NCA members discounts to treat yourself to the best bit of kit any athlete can buy – you will not regret it.

6.15: Female only session

7.45: Open session, all welcome

Road Training: http://blog.pedalrevolution.co.uk/events/sunday-coaching-session

On Sunday, we are back at the Airport Circuit for another morning of coaching, confidence building and riding. We have 2 big changes to improve the running of the morning and your enjoyment. Firstly, we will have a second circuit open all morning with the Whitmore, Sullivan and Coles families offering their time to marshall the circuit and manage the loan bike fleet – thanks chaps – so you can ride outside the coaching times on a seperate circuit. Secondly, Simon Elliott is joining the NCA coaching team having just moved down from Kings Lynn where he created and led a fantastic coaching scheme at the Discovery Centre.

9.00-10.15 Experienced riders coaching with Russell, Kev and Simon

10.00-11.00 Youngsters and beginners games-based session with Neil

10.30-11.45: Novice and Intermediate rider coaching and riding with Russell, Kev and Simon

noon-1.15: Female-only Session with Kev and Russell

Coming up – NCA Rollerdrome racing at Norwich Sportspark Open Day 18th November: We have been invited by the UEA Sportspark to take a centre stage at their open day on Sunday 18th November. We will have the legendary Rollerdrome roller racing rig which pitches 4 riders against each other for a 500M sprint to the death in our knockout competition. If you fancy racing head-2-head at up to 50mph on the closest thing to the Olympic Velodrome then this is your chance! More on this next week.

We look forward to seeing you Friday and Sunday and having another superb weekend of  cycling together. The Suffferfest continues weekly and the Sunday coaching for November is 4th, 11th and 27th – so three Sunday’s to enjoy this month before the December break!

Events this Week

It’s all change this week at the NCA – please read on…

Our regular Sunday coaching session this week will NOT be on. Instead, we cordially invite you all to go and ride the awesome CTC Norfolk Ruff Stuff event along the Marriotts Way from Reepham. Tony Clarke and his team are working hard to create a fabulous family and club event so please have a go and support this fantastic local event. More details here:  http://www.norfolkcycling.co.uk/RuffStuff.html

With no coaching session, I am making the most of a weekend off and at short notice will be taking the family for a week of riding in the North York Moors (did’nt I tell you we are taking the bikes kids – oops!) so the Sufferfest is ON Friday night but Kev is on his own and it will be a single session at 7.45. We will only have the Tri-Anglia Turbo’s as they are stored at City Academy and Kev will  NOT have the NCA bikes this week. This could be the opportunity you were looking for to buy your own Turbo from Pedal Revolution with the amazing deals for NCA members!

The Sufferfest will return to FULL STRENGTH next Friday 2nd November.

Sunday Coaching returns Sunday 4th November, 11th November and 25th November before the Christmas shopping break. Use this focussed run of coaching sessions to prepare yourself technically for our inagural racing day on 30th December where we will have an informal series of races for all ages and abilities that attend the NCA. Watch this space!

Regards,

Neil.

Weekly Update 16th October

We had a great turnout of 56 for the Sufferfest Training night on Friday and 107 for the Coaching session on Sunday at the Airport Circuit. Well done and thanks for making the effort to support us transform grassroots cycle sport in our region.

Training Night:

We have outgrown our current venue on Friday nights and we are working hard with City Academy to find an alternative room with a screen and sound system that does our workouts justice. Please bear with us – we will get this sorted. You have all given us such positive (if not painful) feedback from the sufferfest and being in a bigger room with suitable audio and video will only improve things further.  If you have not tried a Friday night then come and check us out. You can book a turbo and/or road bike via email to info@activatingcic.co.uk with a heading of “turbo booking” or “Tri-Anglia Turbo Booking” for Tri-Anglia members. See http://blog.pedalrevolution.co.uk/events/the-sufferfest-training-night-2012-10-19 for this weeks event - you do not need to book if you have your own Turbo, just rock up and ride.
Pedal Revolution have some amazing Turbo Trainer offers for NCA members including the incredible Elite Turbo reduced to £134.99 from £149.99 (that’s you membership fee saved in your first purchase!!!). Pop in with your membership card to claim your discount on turbo’s, bikes, clothing and just about everything else.
Sunday Coaching:
On Sunday, the cool autumn morning did nothing to stop you and 107 of you came out to play. Russell and Kev focussed on cornering and group riding technical skills. Our aim is to coach technical skills and blend this with riding and for those who want it – racing. However, we want all our new racers up to speed technically before we start racing even though we know you youngsters would rather spend all morning just racing! We aim to conclude sessions with some coach-led racing from now on to prepare you for the racing leagues coming in the new year.
We have Simon Elliott from Kings Lynn joining the NCA coaching team to ensure we have enough coaches to lead our enthusiastic riders. We are also going to open another circuit for those who have completed their coaching and those wanting to warm-up as we noticed many of the 9am riders joined in at 10.30 so they could keep riding!
I am looking for a couple of volunteers on Sundays to help us make our day run smoothly, safely and effectively. Specifically, I would like help to fit riders to the bike fleet and marshall the new secondary circuit (next to signing on). If you can help, please let me know – even if its just for an hour.
Ruff Stuff Family Ride:
We have rearranged our  28th October coaching session to 4th November and we cordially invite – and challenge – you all to ride Tony Clarke’s fantastic Ruff Stuff event based at Reepham. It’s all in aid of East Anglian Air Ambulance and most of the ride is along the traffic free Marriotts Way. There is a 10 mile route which should be great for families. U16′s ride free and you can find out more here: http://www.norfolkcycling.co.uk/RuffStuff.html
Social Media:
You can now follow us on twitter @activatingcic and we have a new facebook page that we would love you to join and like please!
November Dates:
We have Sunday coaching days on 4th, 11th and 25th November and a Sufferfest each Friday. See the events calendar for more details: http://blog.pedalrevolution.co.uk/
December Dates:
We do not have any coaching days in December as the Airport circuit is used for Christmas Shoppers in the run up to Christmas. However, we plan to run a full racing day for youths and novice adults on Sunday 30th December if there is demand! Seriously, what else do you want to be doing between Christmas and New Year???? It takes a lot of organising and we want to be sure there is demand so we are not standing there on our lonesome! So please let us know at info@activatingcic.co.uk if you fancy a series of races on 30th December.
Regards,
Neil
