Coaching, National Rankings, Sufferfest and Ladies Night!

Coaching & National Rankings

This Sunday we have our regular coaching session at the airport. Sessions for all ages and abilities are catered for from families and children through to those wanting to sharpen their technique in preparation for racing at Elvedon. Come and join in and get more from your cycling. Full timetable here: http://blog.pedalrevolution.co.uk/events/airport-circuit-coaching-day-2013-04-21

I am delighted to announce that NCA regulars have taken the latest British Cycling National Rankings by storm! The rankings are based on racing results across the country and the national rankings are complied for each respective youth age category. The boys are doing well in their respective categories:

Edward Cole 17th, Seth Houlgate 19th, Patrick Manning 23rd, Chris Jackso, Samuel Asker and Josun Cole joint 25th and Oliver Griggs and Tom Howell 27th

and the girls are amazing: Victoria Asker 5th,  Sophie Wright 7th, Isla Rush 11th, Ella Gilbert 24th,  Alice Colding 29th and  Corinne Geraghty 39th.

Well done youngsters, congratulations!!! I do not think our region has seen this level of performance for some time…

Pedal Norfolk and Rollerdrome

Pedal Norfolk is a brave and bold 3-day cycling festival at Holham Hall over the Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the May-Day Bank Holiday weekend. The sportives look an awesome challenge and the shorted rides are free! The NCA team will be delivering coaching, fun and games all day on the Saturday and Sunday and running family and club oriented events in the evenings. One of those evening events will be an inter club Roller Racing competition sponsored by LeathsPrior Solicitors.  Teams of 4 riders will race head to head in a relay race to find Norfolk’s fastest club. We are visiting each local club and offering a great night of entertainment and socialising.  The NCA is included and we will be bringing the Rollerdrome with us on Sunday to the coaching session so you can all have a play and try-out for the NCA team. Come and have a go on Sunday whatever your age, gender or level of experience, it is only a 20-30 second burst of speed. Can you conquer the Rollerdrome???

Click here for the Pedal Norfolk website, we would love to see you at the event: http://www.pedalnorfolk.co.uk

Sufferfest

Sadly, the school can not accommodate us for the next two weeks :-(

We usually finish the Sufferfest for the summer and persuade you all to get outside and enjoy your riding.

But this year, many of you have asked us to continue the Sufferfest all summer – you all crazy! Seriously though, many riders have used the Sufferfest to get started in our sport, trainied for a specific challenge or ride and developed their endurance and speed for racing. We would love to here your views on how we should plan the summer months:

1. Continue the Sufferfest on a Friday as is until August;

2. Move to another weekday night possibly at a different venue;

3. Replace the Sufferfest with an outdoor technical coaching session and 30-45 minute ride

4. Have the usual break until September.

Please let me know your views so Kev and I can provide the sessions that are important to you.

Ladies Night

Our club Sponsors, Pedal Revolution, have invested in a large range of women-specific clothing and bikes and have offered the NCA a Ladies night with experts presenting the range and explaining the fit, style and reasoning behind the designs. There trained mechanics will also be available to offer you the opportunity to learn the basics of bike mechanics to enable you to be independant and self-sufficient out on the road – change a tube etc – and look after your bike day-to-day. The evenings will be free and by invite only to ensure you get the full attention of the experts and technicians  Let me know if you are interested please and I’ll gladly add you to the invite list!

That’s it, enjoy your cycling and hopefully see you Sunday for coaching and Roller Racing…

Neil, Kev, Simon, Leon and Russell.

NCA Spring Racing League Rounds 1 and 2

Our first ever race meeting gave us some warm and cheerful racing on a bitterly cold Mothering Sunday. Our brave riders seemed to love their racing and many were racing for the very first time. Luckily, we had the use of the pavilion which made signing on and our 10 podium, presentations, which were made immediately after each race, a much more enjoyable experience.

The winners of all 10 races were presented with their souvenir winner shirts and the respective series leaders  proudly wore their yellow Series Leader jerseys for their second race of the day thanks to our racing Sponsors Aquaterra Energy and Parson Woodforde Pub and Restaurant  - thanks guys.

We were delighted to welcome one very important spectator later in the afternoon who kindly presented some of the awards. Local girl and Team GB track star Victoria Williamson spent a couple of hours chatting to riders and patiently posing for piccies complete with her recent World Championship bronze medal. Thanks Victoria, you have lots of new fans at the NCA and we would love to see you again whenever you are at home at one of our grassroots racing and coaching programme. You are helping us inspire the next generation of young riders and those just getting started.  Who knows, one of the young girls you met today could be your teammate in 5 or 10 years time on the GB team!

You can check out the championship points table here: NCA spring Racing League Championship Table

More piccies including all the podium presentations to follow soon…

Thank you to all the riders who supported our first session, it was great to see you again after the winter.

The racing league is ready to go. See the blog post below for details and to download a poster for your workplace, school or kitchen…

You will need British Cycling membership to race. If you are a member of a club (like the NCA, VC Norwich, GYCC etc) and have never been members of BC before then you qualify for FREE membership and provisional racing licence – which is all you need for NCA races. You can complete the forms online using the promotional code “NEWCMRA” here: www.britishcycling.org.uk/membership

rob sharman workshop

Don’t forget we have Rob Sharman, a British Cycling Talent Coach, visiting us Thursday night at 6.30pm at the Eaton Primary School for his “Be the Best you can be” workshop. Rob was uk Professional Premier Calandar champion only a few years ago so he knows what he is talking about. All ages welcome, it is focussed on younger riders but Rob assures us that rider, coaches and parents of all ages will gain from the workshop. These workshops are only available to Go-Ride club members – so you will need to be at least a second-claim member of a Go-Ride (like ours) to attend. Give Neil a ring if in doubt 07850 999 594  or  info@activatingcic.co.uk

British Cycling Talent Team Presentation – Be the Best you Can Be.

Wow, with our first coaching and racing sessions just around the corner the NCA has a fantastic opportunity if you want to get more from your cycling – whether you aim to be a racer, tri-athelete, sportive, leisure rider or “just” a supportive parent or coach!

Rob Sharman, British Cycling Talent Development Coach and 2005 Premier Calendar Champion

Rob Sharman, British Cycling Talent Development Coach and 2005 Premier Calendar Champion

Rob Sharman has been a Professional rider in the UK and France for several years winning the UK’s top Road Racing league – The Premier Calandar in 2005. He is currently British Cycling’s Talent Development Coach and his role at British Cycling is to ‘Make More Better Bike Racers’ by way of improving coaching/racing pathways within the clubs & regions. He works with the British Cycling Talent Team which is the first Squad on the Olympic Development Pathway. We are delighted to host Rob’s sessions as they represent the first access a young rider can have to the Olympic Development Programme influence.

“If you want to be the best you can be on a bike then this workshop is for you! The  aims are to highlight the simple approach we advocate regarding training & racing and the reasons why this has to be taken, enabling the foundations are laid for the bike racers to build from.

This workshop is not talking about sports science or  prescribed training it is a Workshop that explains the racing pathway, how to use it best to your advantage and what the basic principles &priorities are when training so in turn you can make the best use of the racing pathway, it provides a really sound understanding to develop a deeper understanding of training & racing from.”

In the  first half of the workshop (March 7th) Rob will talk about the sort of races available to Youth riders, and talk primarily about youth riders (U10s, U12s, U14s, U16s and Juniors but this also has high relevance to all ages. Rob will share information and help EVERYONE understand why and how they should strive to engage with National Level races if they want to be the best they can be.

The 2nd half of the workshop (March 21st) is focussed on training volumes, intensities and the very simple approach that we can take to help us become better and more effective riders. Rob will share the ‘secrets’ of the Talent Team diaries and explain the importance of HARD WORK!!! This will lay the foundations for individuals to become capable of successfully planning effective training plans for themselves.

The information in this workshop is for Riders, parents & Coaches EQUALLY – there is something here for everyone, although it is aimed primarily at U10s, U12s, U14s, U16s and Juniors. Rob believes firmly that the training principles he shares in the 2nd half of the workshop apply to any age of bike racer – so don’t miss out!!!

The workshops are on Thursday 7th ( http://blog.pedalrevolution.co.uk/events/british-cycling-workshop-developing-young-riders ) and Thursday 21st at Eaton Primary School. Don’t miss this opportunity !!!

Racing League, Brand New Sufferfest, Cycle Show: It’s never been so exciting to own a bike in Norfolk!

Kev had been working hard and produced a brand new workout entirely from scratch. It’s a tough little session ideal for building winter endurance and a couple of little surprises thrown in… We have lots of turbo’s available for the 6.15 session which is usually quiet – or have you all bought your own turbo’s now???? No need to book if you have your own turbo and bike. click here for more: http://blog.pedalrevolution.co.uk/events/the-sufferfest-training-night-2013-01-25

Talking of Turbo’s, club sponsors Pedal Revolution have just received a new batch of Elite and Tacx turbo’s and still have some cracking deals to get NCA, VC Norwich and Tri-Anglia members  suffering. Pop in and see for yourself and have a cuppa in the lounge.

The racing dates for this season’s Sunday racing league at the Airport Circuit are complete. We will have a spring (starting 10th March) and summer racing league (starting 30th June) each with 8 rounds over 4 dates – that is 16 races in total!!! We have categories for all the usual youth classes (U8, U10, U12, U14, U16) plus female adults and allcomers. The racing will be fast and furious and aimed at improving your technique, racecraft and speed. The timetable will have your two races close to one another so you are not hanging around all day. Before each round, we will present the respective overall category leader with a Yellow jersey to wear for that round and we have some amazing trophies. We will be launching the racing leagues at the Norfolk Cycle Show on Sunday 3rd Feb and announcing a headline sponsor who shares our passion for providing facilities and events specifically for youth, female and new racers in our region.

Our coaching dates will be announced at the show also and family/adult coaching will also be available on race days on a separate circuit so you have an NCA family, female and new rider coaching session every two weeks aimed at building technique, confidence and helping you get the most from your riding whatever your goals.
