Come and meet (left to right) Kev, Neil and Russell
Pedal Revolution have teamed up with cycling experts ActivatingCIC, Norfolk County Council and Sport England to create the Norfolk Cycling Academy (NCA) to provide much needed venues, events and resources for Norfolk’s leisure and sports cyclists.
We have a brilliant new traffic-free cycle coaching, training and racing venue and we have a fleet of road bikes to help you get started. We hold Sunday sessions every fortnight (See the events calendar for dates).
Friday night is bike night with ActivatingCIC’s legendary Sufferfest group turbo training night at the amazing new 21st century facilities of City Academy. If you want a great winter training workout, loose a bit of weight or just feel amazing after an hour’s hard work then come and see us!
We ask every rider, after their first few events, to join the academy as it allows us to provide insurance and keep the club and fleet of road bikes running. Your membership offers you a generous discount at Pedal Revolution on bikes, clothing and accessories – just bring your membership card into the shop. If you belong to a club already your membership with us is just a 2nd claim membership and we want you to keep racing and riding for your local club.

THE SUFFERFEST IS BACK!
The Sufferfest will be back from next Friday 17th May. We will have a single session at 7pm and you are all welcome. They will be aimed for summer riding and our workouts will be designed to give you extra endurance (and weight loss!) and some extra zip for the hills, sprints or the odd bit of racing! More next week. You can book as usual via info@activating.co.uk
Enjoy the sunshine,
Neil, Kev, Simon and Russell.
Club sponsors, Pedal Revolution, are putting on an NCA Womans night on Wednesday 8th May from 5-8pm in the Norwich Shop. You will have the opportunity to:
Coaching & National Rankings
This Sunday we have our regular coaching session at the airport. Sessions for all ages and abilities are catered for from families and children through to those wanting to sharpen their technique in preparation for racing at Elvedon. Come and join in and get more from your cycling. Full timetable here: http://blog.pedalrevolution.co.uk/events/airport-circuit-coaching-day-2013-04-21
I am delighted to announce that NCA regulars have taken the latest British Cycling National Rankings by storm! The rankings are based on racing results across the country and the national rankings are complied for each respective youth age category. The boys are doing well in their respective categories:
Edward Cole 17th, Seth Houlgate 19th, Patrick Manning 23rd, Chris Jackso, Samuel Asker and Josun Cole joint 25th and Oliver Griggs and Tom Howell 27th
and the girls are amazing: Victoria Asker 5th, Sophie Wright 7th, Isla Rush 11th, Ella Gilbert 24th, Alice Colding 29th and Corinne Geraghty 39th.
Well done youngsters, congratulations!!! I do not think our region has seen this level of performance for some time…
Pedal Norfolk and Rollerdrome
Pedal Norfolk is a brave and bold 3-day cycling festival at Holham Hall over the Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the May-Day Bank Holiday weekend. The sportives look an awesome challenge and the shorted rides are free! The NCA team will be delivering coaching, fun and games all day on the Saturday and Sunday and running family and club oriented events in the evenings. One of those evening events will be an inter club Roller Racing competition sponsored by LeathsPrior Solicitors. Teams of 4 riders will race head to head in a relay race to find Norfolk’s fastest club. We are visiting each local club and offering a great night of entertainment and socialising. The NCA is included and we will be bringing the Rollerdrome with us on Sunday to the coaching session so you can all have a play and try-out for the NCA team. Come and have a go on Sunday whatever your age, gender or level of experience, it is only a 20-30 second burst of speed. Can you conquer the Rollerdrome???
Click here for the Pedal Norfolk website, we would love to see you at the event: http://www.pedalnorfolk.co.uk
Sufferfest
Sadly, the school can not accommodate us for the next two weeks
We usually finish the Sufferfest for the summer and persuade you all to get outside and enjoy your riding.
But this year, many of you have asked us to continue the Sufferfest all summer – you all crazy! Seriously though, many riders have used the Sufferfest to get started in our sport, trainied for a specific challenge or ride and developed their endurance and speed for racing. We would love to here your views on how we should plan the summer months:
1. Continue the Sufferfest on a Friday as is until August;
2. Move to another weekday night possibly at a different venue;
3. Replace the Sufferfest with an outdoor technical coaching session and 30-45 minute ride
4. Have the usual break until September.
Please let me know your views so Kev and I can provide the sessions that are important to you.
Ladies Night
Our club Sponsors, Pedal Revolution, have invested in a large range of women-specific clothing and bikes and have offered the NCA a Ladies night with experts presenting the range and explaining the fit, style and reasoning behind the designs. There trained mechanics will also be available to offer you the opportunity to learn the basics of bike mechanics to enable you to be independant and self-sufficient out on the road – change a tube etc – and look after your bike day-to-day. The evenings will be free and by invite only to ensure you get the full attention of the experts and technicians Let me know if you are interested please and I’ll gladly add you to the invite list!
That’s it, enjoy your cycling and hopefully see you Sunday for coaching and Roller Racing…
Neil, Kev, Simon, Leon and Russell.
What an awesome day of grassroots cycle racing. A big thank you to all the competitors for supporting us and a huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped us put on another 16 races today. The smile on our riders faces makes all the hard work worth while.
We had some brilliant close racing and the championship tables had some shakers and movers. Well done to Lois Houlgate, Elle Turner, Sophie Wright and Ella Gilbert for winning the girl’s race within the young championships. With this amount of competition we will definitely put on a separate championship for girls in the Summer League.
For the youth riders, the top 3 boys and girls in each youth category scored national ranking points in each race. That’s a big haul of points for the local racers and we are really excited to see their national rankings grow when our results are processed early this week by British Cycling.
